The Tascante vineyards are located at high altitude on the northern side of the Mt. Etna volcano in Sicily which were replanted utilizing the latest modern spacing and vine training techniques. The Carricante grape variety is an ancient one, and is revered for the crisp, bright, citrus and mineral-etched wines it can produce.
My best white came from Tascante, the Etna label from Sicily’s winemaking clan of Tasca d’Almarita. The 2012 Carricante Buonora shows wonderful freshness. A salty and rich white with minerals, lemons and a sliced apple character. Wonderful density and freshness all at the same time. A benchmark white from Etna. It shows Burgundian density.
